Grass Menageries

Grass Menageries

Grass. We mow it. We walk on it. We push our ways through it, and we weed it. Rarely do we  look at it. On my morning hikes in the prairies and foothills of Boulder, I began to notice it.

Flower Power

Flower Power

Flowers, wild and cultivated.  Little grass buds and flowers will be on Grass Menageries.

Where Leaves Go

Where Leaves Go

Photographing leaves is something that I just fell into. On warm winter mornings when the ice on the creeks was melted, I had to look for something else go grab my attention. It’s funny because now I’m more interested in photographing leaves than ice. I love the emotions and relationships.

Ice is Nice

Ice is Nice

Ice is a subject that naturally lends itself to abstract expression. When winter comes, I put on my crampons and walk out on our local creeks and lakes. I’m always looking for patterns and colors, but there always has to be some emotion, some relationship going on.

Tree Hugger

Tree Hugger

I love trees. They express themselves in so many ways, big and masculine, bending and feminine, old and wise, young and innocent. I love them all. Oaks, Cottonwoods, Aspens, Pines, Cypresses, Maples, Redwoods, Hemlocks —  with leaves — with no leaves.

Intimates

Intimates

As lenses got wider and landscape photographs got grander and grander, some of us who wanted to make photographs with more depth than just quick wows, moved to simpler more “intimate” landscapes.

In the Clouds

In the Clouds

We have amazing sunrises and sunsets during the winter here in Boulder and that’s when I spend the most time with clouds. I find, that at least for my images, the best ones usually aren’t the ones taken at the peak colors, but before and after the peak colors occur.

Outliers

Outliers

When I’m out taking photographs, I’m not thinking of photographing for a portfolio. I’m just looking for colors, patterns and emotions to make photographs of.  Hence, many of my images don’t cleanly fit into a portfolio description. Here they are in “Outliers”.

Installations

Installations

I’ve been very fortunate to work with great art consultants and designers. Here are some samples of that work.

Haiku Book

Haiku Book

Paul Jonathan Rowland and I have created this beautiful book with my photographs and accompanying haikus by Paul. The wonderful design of this book is the work of my wife Chaya.  This book is 8.5"x8.5", 46 pages and contains 20 photographs and accompanying haikus. We are selling it as print on demand for $24.95. You can purchase a copy here.

This portfolio contains some samples from the book.  Feel free to contact me for more information.
